The GreenLens Photography Competition application call is now open! “GreenLens: Southeast Asian Youths’ Perspectives on Environmental Issues” is the response to the stark realities of plastic waste, e-waste, pollution, and the looming threat of climate change, which demand our attention now.

GreenLens Photography Competition 2024 Details

Southeast Asia stands at a crucial crossroads. The need for collective action has never been more significant, and the urgency has never been clearer. It’s not just about addressing issues related to plastic waste, e-waste, pollution, and climate change; it’s about securing the resilience and prosperity of our region.

The competition aims to enhance social-environmental awareness among ASEAN youths through a photo competition. This will be followed by a virtual eco-exhibition where participants will showcase their submissions.

TWO PHASES OF competition

Phase 1: Photo Competition

Empower ASEAN youths to submit original photos accompanied by narratives addressing environmental challenges

Phase 2: Virtual Eco-Exhibition

Showcases all submitted entries, digital space to amplify impactful eco-narratives (Challenges and Solutions) of ASEAN youths


  • Submit original photos capturing the theme of climate change or related environmental issues.
  • Photos should be of high quality (in PNG format only) and convey a clear message.
  • Include a narrative of no more than 100 words providing context and insight into the environmental challenge depicted.
  • Photos should have no manipulation, not too much editing and originality. (Shortlisted contestants are required to submit the original photos)
  • Each individual can only submit ONE (1) photo; multiple submissions are not allowed, as each entrant is eligible for one prize only.
  • Submitted photo must include the GreenLens logo in the corner => No logo in the submitted photo will lead to disqualification
  • Plagiarism will lead to immediate disqualification.
  • Judging criteria: Creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, and effectiveness of the narrative.

Who can enter the competition?

Open to individuals of any ASEAN nationality (including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste) AND currently based in an ASEAN country or Timor-Leste during the period of competition.

Participants must be 18 to 25 years old (born in 1999). (A copy of ID will be required for shortlisted participants)

The competition is free to  enter.

  • 1st Prize: USD 250 (1 winner)
  • 2nd Prize: USD 150 (1 winner)
  • 3rd Prize: USD 100 (1 winner)
  • Honorable Mentions: USD 50 each (10 winners)

Enhance professional skills such as design, photography, and networking through the competition for young environmental photo enthusiasts

Application Guide

It will only take less than 30 minutes to secure your place on the project by completing the online application form. Then, an automatic email will be sent to the email you used to register for the program to make sure you successfully submitted your application.
