The Cheltenham Illustration Awards with prizes for artists call for applicants for 2023 is now open! The Awards are administered by the University of Gloucestershire, UK under the auspices of Pittville Press. A printed annual and a public exhibition are held each year.
The Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2023 Details
The focus of the Awards is narrative. Visual storytelling, whether sequential or single image, gives scope to the imagination and opens up possibilities beyond the present moment; what happened before? What happens next? The theme for 2023’s Exhibition and Annual : ‘Interconnectivity’.
Competition sections
There are two sections of the Awards: ‘Student’ and ‘Emerging and Established’. The Student category is open to all full time students over 18 years of age worldwide.
The Emerging and Established category is open to any practising illustrators who wish to gain exposure of their work and to those who are more established and are a part of the illustration world.
ELIGIBILITY
WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH A RESOLUTION OF 300dpi. Group / collective works are accepted. Image submissions should be 1-5 image file/s, clearly named with your name, per image (max of 5).
Within these images, however, there can be a selection of panels, images, or cells if your submission is a narrative that relies on this format (i.e. A comic). name your work with the title (followed by “01” if it is part of a series).
Who can enter the competition?

ENTRY is £10 for 1 submission per artist or collective. Each entry can contain up to 5 images as part a of a series.
The Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2023 Prizes
The selected work will be showcased at several galleries and events across the UK in 2023, including the London Book Fair, as well as published in the 2023 Cheltenham Illustration Awards Annual, which will be distributed to educators and publishers, internationally.
Past exhibition spaces have been Pitt Rivers Oxford, The Wilson Museum and Art Gallery, The Museum in the Park Stroud and the Chapel Arts, Cheltenham.

The Awards will also be inviting work from established artists and illustrators whose work we admire and that contributes to the theme.
The 60 most highly commended entries entered are chosen by a professional industry selection panel for this inclusion in the annual and, from these, for the 2023-2024 exhibition. The Illustration awards receives over 800 entries each year from all over the world and is sent round the globe!
