The Baden-Württemberg International Design competition application call is now open! In the more than 30 years of its existence, the annually presented Baden-Württemberg International Design Award has established itself as a constant at both national and international level and has been held under the concise label FOCUS OPEN since 2009.
Baden-Württemberg International Design competition 2024 details
Design is a crucial key to commercial success – as the Baden-Württemberg International Design Award has been proving ever since 1991.
The initial spark that led to the founding of the Baden-Württemberg International Design Award came in 1988 from Lothar Späth, who was Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg at the time and an active promoter of economic development.
Competition categories
The award is awarded in four prize categories:
- FOCUS OPEN Gold: Forward- looking and outstanding solutions receive the FOCUS Gold
- FOCUS OPEN Silver: is awarded for exceptional quality.
- FOCUS OPEN Special Mention: Design that sur- passes the established level receives.
- FOCUS OPEN Meta: The jury can present a special prize in honour of exemplary solutions to overarching and topical issues.
Eligibility
- Companies and design agencies from all over the world.
- Products that have not been on the market for longer than two years.
- Prototypes whose production readiness is guaranteed.
- No artistic works.
Who can enter the competition?
FROM BEGINNER TO WINNER. Startups, newcomers and founders have the same chances of winning an award for their exciting projects as established de- sign agencies and companies do!
Competition Entry fee
FEES Per product registration: 170 Euro
Baden-Württemberg International Design Competition prizes
- Festive award ceremony and exhibition opening that focus public attention on all the winning products. An exhibition lasting several months in Haus der Wirt- schaft Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart.
- Publication in a yearbook that is distributed to the major international markets via a publishing house renowned for its books on design.
- Certificate and logo for individual mar- keting purposes, complimentary copy of the yearbook and trophy for Gold winners.
- Extensive online presence via all the Design Center Baden-Württemberg’s com- munication channels.

1. PHASE 01 CATEGORIES REGISTRATION
REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS
A fully completed online regis- tration form for each product. A combined application can be submitted for product families.
EXPLANATORY TEXT
Explanatory descriptions that detail the award-worthiness and special features of the product/entry.
IMAGES / VIDEOS
Supporting material that clarifies any special features may be submitted to aid in assessment of the entry.
Before/after images may also be submitted if available.
2. PHASE 02 PRODUCT SUBMISSION, DELIVERY.
FROM 02 TO 10 MAY 2024
Products submitted by post should also be sent to the delivery address provided.

3. PHASE 03 JUDGING, FEES, FEEDBACK
You will receive written notification of the jury’s decision. The jury’s decision is final.
